The Jewish graveyard in
Porz -Zündorf is
unknown by most citizens of Zündorf, Wahn, Elsdorf
Urbach. Even pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists
don’t notice the tiny sign next to the agriculture
road, "Hasenkaul" which connects Elsdorf with
Zündorf.
There are other optical
charms which pedestrians focus on : the modern fence
of the glass works Saint-Gobain to the north of the
way, the view of the railroad of the KVB tramline 7
which connects Porz with Zündorf, or the view on the
fields which are to the south.
Coming from Zündorf the
insignia of our mobile society focus all attention
of the pedestrians: a huge converter for the cell
phone network, an immense bridge which crosses the
new intercity express railroad from Cologne to
Frankfurt.
The afforestation, which
doesn’t fit in at all doesn’t catch anyones eye.
There is no noticeable
borderline to the property of the graveyard.
The original main
entrance in only accessible from a path to the
west that runs parallel to the tramline.
The sign to the
east of the Jewish graveyard which points out
the way to the memorial says "cultural path“ on
it; on either end of the agricultural road there
is no hint for pedestrians that they are walking
on a cultural path.
